The FDA has approved the first-ever smartphone app to help avoid relapse. It’s designed to supplement outpatient therapy by assisting recovering addicts in recognizing and monitoring cravings and triggers.
The app, known as a “prescription digital therapeutic,” was created by a company called Pear Therapeutics, it’s called “reSET” and is expected to be commercially available shortly.
The company’s website details the results of clinical trials showing that patients using the app in conjunction with face-to-face therapy had significantly better results than patients receiving face-to-face therapy alone.
The company has a separate product in the FDA pipeline, called “reSET-O,” that is designed specifically for opioid users.
