Opioid deaths spike in the U.K.

Opioid deaths in England and Wales are up more than 50% in the last four years, sparking fears that the problem there could reach levels comparable to those in the U.S.

The U.K. is also seeing much higher levels of prescription drug overdoses and hospitalizations related to synthetic opioids.

“We cannot be complacent,” said U.K. public health minister Steven Brine. “This is a huge problem in the U.S., and we must be absolutely sure it doesn’t become one here.”
