U.S. agencies crack down on sham addiction cures

Federal regulators have sent warning letters to 11 companies that market dubious products they claim can treat opioid addiction and withdrawal.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Federal Trade Commission complained about products being advertised as dietary supplements or homeopathic remedies, including “Opiate Freedom 5-Pack,” “CalmSupport,” and “Soothedrawal.”

The FDA Commissioner blasted “unscrupulous vendors who are trying to capitalize on the epidemic by taking advantage of consumers and selling products with baseless claims.”
