President Trump has put his former campaign manager, Kellyanne Conway, in charge of coordinating the Administration’s response to the opioid crisis.

Conway has been running weekly White House meetings with officials from a dozen federal departments, designed to coordinate government policy and implement recommendations from a presidentially appointed commission.

Conway’s approach has been to treat addiction as a disease and to focus on community resources for treatment and support, sources say.

Conway herself has no relevant background in public health or addiction issues, apart from the fact that she had a cousin who experienced multiple overdoses.
